Why Support We Are Moving The Needle?

“We Are Moving The Needle’s Fix The Mix Report revealed that men outnumber women 19:1 in production and engineering credits on top songs. That’s not just a gap in representation: it’s a loss of creative potential. When 50% of the world’s creators aren’t being heard we miss out on half the artistry, half the innovations, and half the music. Some see this problem as too big to solve. We don’t.

The solutions are right in front of us. It’s time to move from conversation to action.” - Emily Lazar, Founder

Founded in 2021 by Emily Lazar, We Are Moving The Needle is a nonprofit organization, aimed at empowering and uplifting female and non-binary engineers and producers, to help give them direction on how to establish and maintain their careers in the audio industry. Through scholarship and grant programs, mentorship sessions, community events, and educational research, we have made strides toward closing the gender gap in the audio industry by making sure that up and coming creators feel supported at every step of their journeys.

We Are Moving The Needle has awarded over one million dollars in scholarships and grants in the last five years, with nearly 250 scholarships awarded to female, non-binary, and trans creators. We have also had over 1,300 individuals who have taken part in mentorship pairings and group sessions with industry professionals, and currently support over 480 college chapter students who are preparing to take the next steps in their careers.

We are incredibly proud of the work that we have done since launching in 2021, but these achievements would not have been possible without the support from our community and individuals who believe in our mission. Your donations go directly back into the community to help fund our various scholarship and grant programs, as well as to help us hold mentorship sessions and events, where up-and-coming creators can connect and learn more about their community.
